Improvements to Search Bar Suggestions

Updates

  • 27/02/2025 - We have temporarily disabled the new search suggestions to address a bug. It should be back online on Monday.
  • 27/02/2025 - Currently, the v2 search requires capital letters when searching for cards by expansion code. (e.g., SUDA-001 will find Evil HERO Toxic Bubble (v.1) from Supreme Darkness while suda-001 will not)

Dear Cardmarket Users,

We plan to make significant improvements to the search process on Cardmarket. We start with the automatic suggestions that the search bar provides when you enter a search prompt. You can opt in to try out the new functionality via the ≡ menu in the top right corner of the Cardmarket main page.

Key Changes:

  • Search by Tag (Set name abbreviation) :
    • Users can now search using two characters (previously three), allowing for quicker and more flexible searches. This means "Wrath of" will search for both words instead of just looking at "Wrath."
    • Tags no longer need to be embedded in the localized card name for a match.
    • Example: Searching for "PCY-123" or even mistyped variations like "hello crawl PCY-123 silt world" will now return relevant results, such as "Silt Crawler."

  • Improved Search Behavior:
    • Exact Matches: Terms input exactly as entered will yield the intended results.
    • Fuzzy Matches: Mistyped or misspelled search words, such as "sol rink," will now return results like "Sol Ring."
    • Tail Matches: Searches now match terms appearing anywhere in the card name, not just at the start.
  • Language Support:
    • Searches will respect the morphology and stemming of words in up to 34 languages, including those with specific symbols such as umlauts (ä, ö, ü).
  • Search Results and Prioritization:
    • Results are now prioritized and highlighted with term boosting for more relevant outcomes.
    • Customizable relevance ranking and query-time rank expressions are introduced for better result organization.
  • Search Enhancements:
    • Support for stop words, alias words, custom flags, and fields (e.g., date, float, geo-data).
    • Expanded the search to include accessories in every game search.

We are looking forward to your feedback and of course intend to expand the available search options over time, as we learn more about our users' search tendencies.

Happy searching!

Your Cardmarket Team
